Buddhi Marambe

Professor Buddhi Marambe is a senior academic at the University of Peradeniya with over 36 years of experience in crop science, specializing in weed science, climate change adaptation, and food security. He has received several top honors, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Weed Science Society (2022), Sri Lanka’s Presidential Award, and the NRC Merit Award for scientific research. Prof. Marambe plays key national roles as President of the Weed Science Society, Chairman of the National Invasive Species Group, and a long-time member of Sri Lanka’s UNFCCC climate negotiation team. He has contributed to policy development, served on government committees, and advised institutions like the World Bank, ADB, FAO, UNDP, and UNEP on agriculture and climate issues. His work bridges research, policy, and international consultancy, making him a leading expert in sustainable agriculture and environmental resilience in Sri Lanka and beyond.
